Welcome to the Beanstalk Keepsakes blog. I won't just be posting about our products we promise. I wanted to give you a bit more so you will see posts on what to do in the local area, craft projects you can do with the kiddies, keepsakes you can make from home and you'll get to hear a bit more about me and my life as a work from home Mum. Hope you enjoy my posts. Feel free to comment on any post and leave your feedback.
When I started this blog off I didn’t want it to just be about keepsakes. I wanted to share bits of my life with you too. So here is a run down of our Family Holiday In The Lake District.
My parents and my husbands parents have been talking about us all going away for a couple of years now. Us all being Mum, Dad, my husbands parents, my two sisters and their partners, my niece and nephew and of course us 4. We left it to my Dad and Father In Law to choose where we went as it was their treat (lucky us). I think it was a challenge to find a place for so many of us (10 adults and 4 children all 3 and under) but the found this wonderful (and massive) place in Coniston.
Coniston is a lovely little town on Lake Coniston and seemed a lot more peaceful than the likes of Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness. We were there at the end of June though so I’m sure it gets busy in peak season.
The house was just a short walk from the lake and the local amenities such as shops and most importantly the pubs (for us adults to escape to in the evening – we had plenty of baby sitters).
Here are our top 5 activities that we did that week (according to my 3 year old).
1) Going to the lake
We did this on a couple of days of our stay. The weather was actually stunning (we were prepared for the rain) and we got to paddle in the lake. My husband has a kayak and my 3 year old enjoyed going out with Daddy on the boat. In fact we all had a go. The views from the middle of the lake were quite something.
2) A visit to the Lake Aquarium is a must
The Lake Aquarium is situated in Lakeside on Lake Windermere so we had about a 20-30 minute drive to get there. We saw all sorts of fish including native lake fish. My husband is a keen fish keeper so very much enjoyed this as did the children. Fun for all.
3) Boat trip to Bowness
We brought a combination ticket at the aquarium which got us entry into the aquarium and a return boat trip to Bowness. This was great value for money and again we all enjoyed it. We got off at Bowness for a walk and coffee. It was much busier here than back in Coniston but still a lovely town.
4) Day trip to the Safari Zoo
My parents and my in laws left is this day to go walking while the rest of us took the kids to the Safari Zoo which is located just outside Barrow. We had a fun day here. My 3 year old fed a giraffe and we got to see all the usual animals. What made this place unique was that it didn’t feel like the animals were caged. I loved the open space that the giraffes, rhinos and monkeys had. They had lemurs happily roaming around the park. We found them quite amusing until one of them stole my nieces apple from her hand (she has just turned one and loves her food!).
5) Quality family time
Of course spending time all of us together was the best highlight. This is what holidays are all about. We’ve been back two weeks and I am ready for the next holiday already.
Where are you off to on your holiday this year? Let me know in the comments below.
