A couple of nights ago after a particularly hectic day! I sat down on the sofa waiting for my favourite programme to start. I had about 10 minutes to spare so I picked up my laptop with the intention of doing a little work organising some images when I came across a forgotten folder labelled ‘baby pics n videos’.
Had it been so long that I had forgotten exactly what was in there?.
My little boy had just gone to bed and my partner was in the kitchen making us a well deserved cuppa, so I decided to take a stroll down memory lane and have a quick flick through the video clips.
As I watched the first one of my little boy at just a couple of months old, sat in his baby bouncer with the biggest blue eyes you have ever seen and a smile that could light up an entire room, it brought a tear to my eye to see how much he had changed in such a short space of time. I had almost forgotten how small and totally dependant he once was. My partner came and sat down beside me on the sofa, and we watched every video together that night. Some made us laugh, some made us cry, although my partner wont admit to it but I did see him on more than one occasion quickly wipe away a tear from the corner of his eye! It made us so proud to see how much our son had developed and grown but we couldn’t help but feel a little sad at the rate in which he had done so.
I know it wont be long until he is off to school with his friends becoming more and more independent by the day and although as parents this is what we ultimately want for our children, the thought does also bring mixed emotions knowing that before long he wont want Mummy to give him a big cuddle if he scrapes his knee or he might not want Daddy to swing him around and pretend to be an aeroplane when he arrives home from work.
We cannot turn back the clock, and I know that there are still lots of adventures for us to have as a family, but I do find it comforting in the knowledge that we have captured a few little keepsakes along the way, marking just the beginning of such an incredible journey that will last for years to come!
